Quick trip out after work and overnight stay with friends. Mixed conditions with some dirty water and some clean. But soo many fish around in the gulf at the moment. Sounded a nice piece of reef that was loaded with fish, @hamiltsoph and I picked up a couple fish each and enjoyed the scenery. Some great diving on offer already with better stuff to come over the coming months! @danrogers_spearo @sam.power.nz @jdwaugh @p0ppy_mac

Headed out on perfect conditions yesterday and experienced some of the most incredible diving in the Hauraki gulf. Great visibility and thick with big fish. Schools of big kingfish and big snapper milling together mid water is something to behold! Big schools of big northern Tarakihi. Boarfish turning up in numbers. We are spoilt in Auckland to have such great diving on our door step! Our good mate Rion secured his first boarfish, @hamiltsoph got some thumper tarakihi and Snapper. Video to come!

Water is still dirty but a good morning swim. Sophie did well on the snapper while I followed behind and picked up some left overs. Visibility was around 3m and water temp is up to 16 degrees. With the easterly push over this coming week that should help lift temperature up a bit and hopefully get rid of some of this algae bloom water. #wettie #spearfishingnz

Tried to make the most of the long weekend and duck out for a dive while wind dropped. Water was dirty at around 3-4m viz. Spring snapper are hungry so we managed a feed of those as well as some fat scallops on the way home. @hamiltsoph came up trumps with the biggest snapper of the day! #wettie #spearfishingnz

Was great to be boating again in Auckland and good to see plenty of people out enjoying some freedom. Strong winds limited us to the coast where visibility was not great. But there were still plenty of seafood to be had with Snapper, butterfish, kingfish and scallops! #wettie #spearfishingnz

Scallop Processing tutorial. Early in the Auckland scallop season and they are in Great condition. We managed a good feed while out Spearfishing. Here’s just a quick run through on how we like to open scallops to ensure a nice finished product.

Yellow lip Emporer and Job fish. Showing how effective a throw flasher is, two nice reef species from one throw flasher. Dan followed the throw flasher as it slowly sunk to shoot a big yellow lip emporer that was mesmerised. Making sure not to leave the flasher on the bottom I went to retrieve it and flicker it with my right hand to entice a big Jobfish (UKU) to come close enough for a shot. These are really easy to make at home with a short bit of PVC pipe and reflective tape. They work great for both reef fish and pelagic fish. The natural movement of the piece of PVC pipe wrapped in reflective tape works a charm!
